Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma from the department of English literature. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in 1967. Mitchell joined CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was promoted to Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. In 1981 began covering the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both the host and panelist for the TV news show Meet the Press. She served on a panel for the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering in the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. She covered a wide range of noteworthy stories including arm control, budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. She also traveled extensively with the president Reagan to summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
